* I am going to have the same write-up for Encore and Wynn in Las Vegas. The casinos are so similar in terms of games and location that I didn’t think they needed separate intro posts.
Wynn, attached to Encore, has its pros and cons. On one hand, the rooms are amazing at both, you don’t need to show an outrageous amount of play to get comped rooms and food, and there are plenty of high-limit advantage play slots.
On the other hand, it’s a bit of a hike from what I’d call the center of the Vegas strip (Aria, Bellagio, Cosmo, Caesars Palace, etc.), and the competition is just as fierce. I wasn’t able to keep up with my comps during my last visit, and my friendly calls from my host there stopped abruptly.
Games-wise, there are tons of options. While you’re very unlikely to walk up on some can’t-miss monster find, if you do a little camping (i.e., waiting behind a favorable machine), you can at times play something meaningful.
For me, a big detractor is the casino’s proximity to everything else (it’s near Resorts World and Circus Circus). If I’m staying on the property, it’s a trek to get back to MGM/Caesars land, and it’s equally far from Fremont Street in the other direction. I’m not much of an Uber/Lyft guy, but if you are or you don’t mind a lot of walking, Wynn is not a bad option.
