Great question! The casino actually makes more money on advantage play machines than most others that can never offer an advantage.

Whatttt? Yes, it’s true. Casinos, at least in the recent past, loved having advantage play machines on their floor because they got tremendous action from advantage players and non-advantage players alike.

They suck the average casino patron in much more than an average slot. On one hand, that’s pretty damn sad if you think about it. I always see unknowledgeable players reluctantly digging in their wallet after getting bled dry by advantage machines, thinking they are close to triggering something. Sometimes they are, sometimes they aren’t, but they’re putting in more money all the same.

As I explored in this video, when these advantage machines are at the low points of their build, they are returning way less than a non-advantage machine would on average. They give some of that stolen bounty back when they reach a certain point, but because they get so much more play than other machines, casinos love these. Number-crunchers look at the data at the end of the month or year and do cartwheels.

But some casinos still don’t love these machines, and it’s a multifaceted issue. The biggest issue is that an average player is losing much faster on these machines than they otherwise would on a regular machine. That’s because they are often left at the low end of their builds.

Further, some advantage players can get overzealous when waiting on machines, intimidating players that the casino wants to cater to. It goes deeper than this, including people who crush the casino on comps, but I’ll end the post here.
