This will be a longer post because I have been coming here a decent amount recently, so I have a pretty good grasp on how Atlantis works.
First off, the comp system at Atlantis is wild. When you get a “comped” room, they actually make you gamble a certain number of hours or they rescind the comp (about four hours or so). It’s not an, “All right, we won’t comp this guy in the future.” No, if you don’t gamble enough by their metrics, they will make you pay the normal rate.
Oh, and they now have resort fees (over $70 per night) and housekeeping fees (about $10 per night). If you gamble a whole lot, which I was only able to do once according to them out of five stays, they will waive those fees.
And about their metrics…a total joke. They care much more about your time on the slots than your average bet. And because I bet quickly when I play, I’m hurting my comp action by doing so. Other than Baha Mar, which is also in the Bahamas, I have not heard of a casino looking at duration on the games more than “coin in” on the machines.
One time, I was ripping $50 bets on Buffalo Link and Phoenix Link, but because I was fast-spinning, it didn’t look all that impressive in their eyes. Had that been a normal casino anywhere else, they’d be rolling out the red carpet.
That rant out of the way, how is the casino itself? Well, there is some competition to be sure. The cruise ships come in every day (and many of them), and they often bring advantage players who make the short trip from port to Atlantis. I was one of those people, and it’s how I got comps at Atlantis to begin with.
Then you’ll likely have at least one other person actively checking machines after the cruise ships leave, not to mention some folks who have half a clue about advantage slots but don’t know everything.
The resort itself is big, much like Baha Mar, but the casino is fairly small. There are still enough games to grind out some wins, assuming you have a lucky day without much competition.
Now, a couple of other things: Atlantis is on Paradise Island, which is a nice little resort in Nassau. But it has a “resort in Cancun” kind of feel at times, as the surrounding area over the bridge isn’t the most pleasant. Also, if you want to get to the other casino, Baha Mar, it’s about seven or so miles away. A one-way taxi is $30, and I like to go at least a couple of times per day to check out how the slots look there.
I now bring a collapsible bike with me on the plane and go back and forth, which saves me heaps of money but is a pain to lug around at times. The drivers are also quite aggressive at times, and the roads can be filled with potholes and are too narrow at points. Further, a lot of the streets are one-way. Anyway, I’ll end the post here, but if you want to check out Atlantis, I’d say it’s worth it, but you’ll want to think about ways to save on costs.
