A spotter texted me an image of a game called Bull Elephant. I couldn’t find it in the games listing, but truthfully, all I did was a text search over the game names in the games listing. I’m assuming it’s AP because it has a MHB. Does anybody here have any information about this game? If a write-up here already exists for it, please let me know where I can access it.

Yup, I don’t have a specific write-up for Bull Elephant. There probably are 100-plus different must-hits like that with a $500 prize. That’s an interesting one in that both must-hits are $500…don’t see that every day.

Anyway, $484.11 might be close enough, but I couldn’t say definitively without seeing the meter movement (i.e., how much it costs to move each meter 1¢). It looks like the meters reset at $250: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYDjVv-FLQ8. Possibly $200, but $250 makes more sense.

If you play around on it for a bit on min bet, you could calculate how much it costs to move the meters 1¢. You would then input that and the rest of the data into our calculator: https://slotslayers.com/calculators/. I probably would opt for “two-meter mode” in our calculator in this case since both must-hits hit at $500. I’d assume both those meters move at the same rate, but that’s worth verifying.

You can see some recent must-hits I covered to get an idea:

        River Dragons

Mustang Money and Mustang Money 2

        Coin Kingdom (Aztec and Egyptian)

I have my own videos at the end of those games where I discuss meter movement calculations if it’s confusing. Also, Bull Elephant does not come from manufacturer AGS, which tend to have their must-hits trigger right at the top. Therefore, when you do input everything, you can opt for “uniform” under Jackpot Distribution. For Base Return %, you could always opt for a conservative figure of 80 if you’re unsure and/or don’t value comps. Something closer to 85% is reasonable too.

Hopefully this all makes sense! Just on the eye test, $484.11 might be close enough—and it’s likely not that far away from +EV if it’s not—but I’d need to know the meter movement to give you a better answer.

I am going back to bed, but I’ll check this thread when I wake up. Best of luck!

Thanks for the detailed response, Ben. I’m a math geek, which is why I enjoy all of this, so I’m reasonably well-versed in meter-movement calculations. The problem in this particular case is that I wasn’t there to play around with it or see the meter movement; a spotter texted it to me and asked if it was a play, it was late at night, and I really wasn’t trying to go anywhere at that point in time but would’ve if I had no doubt that it was good. I looked for the write-up to give him a quick answer because I didn’t have the benefit of that other information to use the calculator. In the end, I said it’s close but no, it’s not a play, mostly because it was a $0.40 bet and because I assumed a 0.25% meter increase, which in my experience seems to be relatively common. Please let me know if I’m wrong about any of that. Had it been $490+, I probably would’ve pulled the trigger.

Speaking of the calculator, have there been any updates on the app version of it? I added my name to the beta list but never got anything indicating when it could be downloaded.

            You got it.

So for must-hits like this, you should be able to bet much more than $0.40 per spin. Yes, the smaller you bet, the less variance you’ll have in the base game, which can certainly be a positive. But you’ll also be on it a lot longer than you would with a bigger bet size.

Anyway, I wouldn’t assume meter movements with must-hits, especially with uncommon ones such as Bull Elephant. In fact, from what I saw briefly in this video, the two meters move at different rates even though they both must hit by $500, with the minor on the left moving considerably faster than the major on the right. Because of that, you’d actually be able to play for the minor lower than you would for the major.

Based on that video, I came up with the following for meter movements: $2 to move the minor by 1 cent and $5 to move the major by 1 cent.

In your photo, the minor was cut off, so I couldn’t tell what that number was. But if I opt for single-meter mode and input the major and go with an 85% base game return, I came up with $486.84 as the recommended starting point (see attached photos).

Regarding the calculator, let me email David. I’ll get back to you on that.

Regarding the app version of the MHB calculator, the Google Play Store approval process is a bigger hassle than I thought. One issue is that you need at least 12 beta testers to test it for 14 consecutive days. I didn’t get enough people to sign up, so I’ve had to put the app version on hold. Sorry about that.

                David,

Thank you for the update. If you’re amenable, I wouldn’t mind getting the .apk install package from you directly and installing it on my phone and tablet. Just lmk yea or nay, and if it’s yea, I’ll email you from my personal email account.
