There are a few different things at play. I think first and foremost is that they’re just gamblers at heart…they like the feeling of being in action, they don’t like the feeling of calculating, waiting or doing hard work in their leisure time…they wanna gamble and by god that’s what they’ll do. It’s not fun for them.
The other major thing is just that people like to believe that they already know everything. They would rather carry on believing whatever they believe than look something up that might call into question what they think they know. In fact, many people state that they believe basic strategy in blackjack was written by the house. It’s easier for them to believe that than to believe that their intuition is wrong. Once someone already has a belief in something, particularly when there’s this much variance involved, they can find anything to justify their belief…it’s not logically coherent usually, but it’s enough for a human brain.
That said, I get it. I hate that there’s a whole crowd of people out there, and not just with regards to gambling, that can’t be bothered to use all of the information at their fingertips. Whether that’s taking a moment to google “blackjack strategy” before sitting down at a table or failing to take a second to read the “Pricing” page on a website before emailing support to ask what the price is ðŸ«
