May be on the long side…  A little background for me was that I played slots when I first went to casinos (around 40 years ago) but only for fun and at minimum bets.  So it was really just a diversion or excuse for a road trip.

I eventually got into Video Poker when I realized that if I played the right games with near perfect execution and at casinos that paid good cash back, I was playing at 100% long term with free rooms and occasionally, free food, thrown in as well.  I also enjoyed some Blackjack and would really only play slots as a break from VP and a little fun.  One of the main reasons I liked VP is there was no reason to quit playing as in the long run I would be at 100% and the losing streaks would be replaced by winning ones in the long run.

But you gave me hope that I could also play slots in the same manner – and I do enjoy playing them at times.  I have never sought to be a big winner – as breaking even makes me happy!

Just got back from Vegas for the first time after being a member of Slotslayers.  We only played at one casino – but I really only looked for yellow/orange games during my VP breaks.  I didn’t really want to flit around the casino – just wanted to “sit” for a session at a slot machine.  But my first trip couldn’t have worked out much worse after finding great opportunities.

The first was Ocean Magic Bubble Boost for $1.  When I finally reached the “60” bubbles and got the bonus, it reminded me of one of your videos.  On the 6 spins, I had ZERO bubbles land on Ocean Magics and there were no explosions at all.  My bonus was a few line pays and was less than $1!  But only $47 down.

Next was Wheel of Fortune High Roller Respin.  I got lucky on this one in finding it at the right time.  I was playing at 6,000 to 8,000 ways most of the time at $1.  I hit my first column with a 4X spin.  My spin, or course, was for $3!  $12 with the multiplier.  But I got to keep going and hit the middle column for the High Roller Respin.  I had never played the game before, so I didn’t know what to expect…  For this bonus, it did the rolling reel thing and had money amounts show up on the reel matrix and would occasionally columns would shoot up towards the top.  But before anything really developed, it was over and I had won a big $15.  Both wins were much smaller than I was expecting, but at least bigger than the Ocean Magic Bubble Boost.

Then it was Buffalo Instant Hit.  I only saw it “ready” once while there.  When I “hit” the 4th column, however, it was a buffalo in the first column and three consecutive wilds into the 4th column.  It was for only about $10, leaving me only $30+ in the hole.

I noticed many of the games never got close to “playable” levels – Magic Treasures, Phoenix Link, Lightning Storm, & Temple Falls.  I did play Frankenstein a couple times for a minimal win, but eventually gave up waiting on Phoenix Link and wanted to play General Tso – and did, hitting a nice bonus on one of the first couple spins.

So, in hindsight, I did enjoy having this additional “arsenal” available for my casino trips.  But I go primarily for enjoyment several times each year.  Most of the casinos I go to have lists of slot machines that are available, some even on a map.  So I can plan a little better for trips and begin to recognize machines.  Most all the machines you have, I have never heard of, and I typically had not played the Eastern-themed machines – just because of symbol, music, color, odd change, etc. preferences.  (They just don’t make “John Waynes” any more.)

Anyway, Thanks again for doing what you’ve done.  At least I can watch your videos to see what machines do and what to hope for.  Here’s to good spins for all!!

        Welcome aboard!

Yes, advantage slots can be a big-time grind, especially in Las Vegas, where the competition is intense. Some folks will also play many of the machines below what I think is a break-even point—sometimes because they want to show action for comps, sometimes because they just feel like gambling, sometimes because they don’t know any better. All of it makes Vegas, in particular, one of the hardest places to do this despite the many casinos and advantage-play machines available.

Ocean Magic Bubble Boost…sometimes I wonder where the money is hiding in this game. Every now and then you’ll hit some killer bonus, which will make up for the many air-balls, but man, it sure is a frustrating game at times. I wouldn’t write it off completely, especially if you come across a nice “combo” play involving two or three getting close to the must-hit point.

Wheel of Fortune High Roller Respin has a lot of potential, but especially in Vegas, it’s rare to find primo plays. It sounds like you were right in the sweet spot of when it’s profitable to play. After that, it’s up to the slot gods. If I could play this game all day in that 6,000-plus “ways” window, I’d be a happy camper.

Buffalo Instant Hit is a low-edge game to be sure. Not my favorite by any stretch, but hey, it can be worth playing if you’re all right with the variance.

As far as finding (or not finding) playable machines, it’s really going to depend on where you are and how much time you put in. And I’d sure like to bang away at some old-school John Wayne-esque slot too, rather than some funny-sounding, uncreative combination of “Lucky Dragons Soaring Moon”—I made that one up, but nothing would surprise me at this point—but I guess we can only play what’s available.

Feel free to use the message boards as often as you’d like. I love hearing the backstory and how recent trips went.
